Wir müssen die grünen Radikalen stoppen
Was für ein Titel, den man sich in Deutschland nicht vorstellen kann: “The Green Taliban will sweep away our liberal order unless we get a grip on climate change.” – bto: Kein Leugnen des Klimawandels, obwohl ich da mittlerweile nach einer wahren Flut an Artikeln auch schon Zweifel bekomme, vor allem mit der Aussage “97 % aller Experten seien sich einig”. Stattdessen die saubere Beobachtung, dass eine zunehmend militante Gruppe das Thema als Hebel sieht, um ganz andere gesellschaftliche Themen zu realisieren. Ob wir uns das wünschen sollten, wage ich zu bezweifeln.
So sieht das auch Ambroise Evans-Pritchard in seinem Kommentar:
- “We have a choice. Either we fight runaway climate change with liberal market policies and capitalist creativity, or we cede the field to Malthusians and the Green Taliban. Retreating into denialism – or more corrosive these days, into shoulder-shrugging nihilism – will not cut it. (…) global warming could reach seven degrees by the end of the century under current policies. (…) the biochemistry of the oceans is changing with alarming speed. Water acidity has increased by 26pc. The pace of melting ice has quickened fivefold (147 Gt yr) in a decade. The Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets are at vanishing at an ‘accelerating rate’. (…) We risk an unstoppable chain-reaction.” – bto: Das mag sein. Nun ist der wichtige Punkt aber der fett markierte am Anfang. Es muss uns gelingen, die technologische und damit die Lösung zu realisieren, die nicht nur den Wohlstand erhält, sondern auch steigert. Wer will schon zurück zu Malthus? Also ich nicht. Ich glaube auch, dass es nicht alle Länder machen werden und dann gibt es eine ganz andere Art von Klimaflüchtlingen. Nämlich jene, die vor “grünen Talibans” flüchten. Aus Deutschland dürften es nicht wenige sein.
- “Technical solutions and eternal economic growth are our only salvation. They are also achievable at zero or even negative net cost with the right market signals. The technology leaps are in fact happening with breath-taking speed.” – bto: Genau! Deshalb sollte der Anspruch Deutschlands auch sein, viel mehr als zwei Prozent beizusteuern! Über Technologie, nicht über Verzicht!
- “It is the capitalist Elon Musk from Tesla who brought the incumbent car industry to its knees and forced through the electric car breakthrough. The plant-based Impossible Burger of Stanford scientist Pat Brown is funded by private venture capital. Would state planners ever have had the creativity to achieve this? Of course not.” – bto: Wer sehen will, wie es beim Staat funktioniert, der blicke nur auf die Energiewende in Deutschland!
- “Soft versions of eco-militancy are moving closer to real political power in a string of countries. The German Greens are running at 38pc in the Baden-Württemberg polls. (…) A narrative has taken hold that the liberal democratic order is incapable of meeting the challenge. An authoritarian fist is necessary.” – bto: Ich denke, jeder, der den Grünen in Deutschland zuhört, weiß, wovon die Rede ist. Es geht um die DDR 2.0, diesmal zum Nutzen der Umwelt. Wahnsinn.
- Doch auch in anderen Ländern gibt es extreme Positionen: “(…) US presidential candidate Bernie Sanders (…) wants the criminal prosecution of coal, oil, and gas executives for causing climate damage. Elizabeth Warren vows to shut down the US fracking industry by executive decree immediately – and with it 8.4pc of global oil supply – if she takes the White House.” – bto: Das ist einer der Gründe: Aktien von Ölkonzernen zu halten. Denn die dürften dann deutlich zulegen.
- “There are now two opposite risks: one that leaders drag their feet and too little is done; the other is that the green extremists will succeed in asphyxiating the liberal economy or provoke a paralysing backlash as they try to do so.” – bto: Es wird zwei Welten geben. Die liberale Welt der technologischen Lösungen, die illiberale zu der wohl Deutschland gehören wird.
- “Harder forms of eco-militancy are flourishing. Germany’s Ende Gelände (No Further) – like Extinction Rebellion – wages a campaign of civil disobedience. (…) At the extreme, green militancy turns into a Khmer Verte. In the late 1990s the Earth Liberation Front carried out hundreds of attacks in 25 countries – many on biotech labs – through a secret cell structure. The FBI deemed it America’s top domestic terrorism threat. This is where are heading again if we don’t get a grip. In the current mood, it is not hard to imagine vigilante action against designated ‘climate criminals’.” – bto: Nichts Besseres könnte man sich als Argument für Gleichmacherei und Sozialismus vorstellen.
- “Solutions are at hand. They just need an extra push. (…) Solar is cheaper than coal in most southern latitudes. (…) The latest auctions for UK offshore wind came in as low as £39.50. (…) Energy storage for weeks at a time is in sight at costs that match and may soon undercut gas peaker plants to balance intermittent renewables. Highview Power’s 4GW liquid air project in Texas will compete toe-to-toe with cheap US shale gas, providing wind back-up at levelized costs below $100 per megawatt/hour. It is aiming for $50 within a decade.” – bto: Ich denke auch, dass Technologie die Antwort ist. Nicht Verzicht um jeden Preis!
- “The next frontier is green hydrogen made from solar or wind by electrolysis. This is harder to crack but the top US universities are all over it. So are London hedge funds. BNEF thinks the levelized cost will drop to $24 MWh by 2030, and to $15 by 2050.This opens the way to limitless production of hydrogen for shipping, long-haul road freight, and railways, or for replacing coke in steel making. Once the cost is low enough huge offshore islands could produce limitless amounts of energy from wind and solar for synthetic fuels.” – bto: Wichtig ist auch hier die Technologieoffenheit. Nicht das oft Übliche, dass ein Politiker besser weiß, wie man es macht.
- “There is no necessary macro-economic ‘cost’ to this great transformation. Economic systems are not like family budgets. Net zero is better understood as an economic accelerant. A report this week by the UN’s economic arm (UNCTAD) estimates the fiscal multiplier of a Global Green New Deal at 1.3 to 1.8. The spending generates a positive economic return. It soaks up excess capital and drives investment. UNCTAD thinks it could lift annual growth by 1pc in rich countries and 1.5pc to 2pc in developing states. It is what the world needs to escape its post-Lehman low growth malaise. It shifts stimulus from asset bubbles to real economy jobs that reverse inequality.” – bto: Das ist bekanntlich auch meine Sicht. Wir haben hier den Nutzen der Verbindung vom Kampf gegen den Klimawandel und der ökonomischen Eiszeit. Man muss Erstes gar nicht glauben, um Letzteres zu machen!
Allemal besser als “green political tyranny”!
