Von der Leyen dürfte scheitern und Macron sich auf ganzer Linie durchsetzen

Heute ist also der große Tag. Ursula von der Leyen soll Präsidentin der EU-Kommission werden. Bestandteil eines Paketdeals und auf Vorschlag des französischen Präsidenten Emanuel Macron, der wohl weiß, wie leicht er mit ihr seine Interessen durchsetzen kann. Meine Meinung habe ich ja schon früher deutlich gemacht:

Ihm ging es zunächst vor allem darum, mit Christine Lagarde seine Kandidatin für den ungleich wichtigeren Job als EZB-Präsidentin durchzusetzen. Nun, bei Ursula von der Leyen dürfte der Gedankengang so sein: Schafft sie es, ist sie harmlos und wird im Zweifel französische und keine deutschen Interessen vertreten (erstes Beispiel: sie unterstützt eine europäische Arbeitslosen”Versicherung”, die bekanntlich ungerecht ist (belohnt falsche Politik), keine Versicherung ist in dem Sinne und als Umverteilung nichts bringt und ungerecht ist, belastet sie doch die ärmeren Deutschen). Schafft sie es nicht, öffnet sich vielleicht die Tür für Margrethe Vesthager, die Macron ohnehin lieber wollte. Verlierer wäre dann Deutschland, was aber hierzulande wenige kümmert.

Interessant ist in diesem Zusammenhang, wie begründet die Kritik an vdL ist. So bringt es auch Wolfgang Münchau in der FINANCIAL TIMES (FT) mehr als deutlich auf den Punkt:

  • “Her own group, the centre-right European People’s Party, has said it would, of course, back her. She is also officially supported by Renew Europe, the group of President Emmanuel Macron of France, and by other European liberal parties. But that support last week began to wobble. The Socialists and Democrats are split: the German Social Democrats dislike her, but others are more positive. The Greens and leftists will not vote for her.” – bto: Und einige aus den Gruppen, die offiziell für sie sind, werden auch gegen sie stimmen. Alle wissen, dass sie es nicht kann.
  • “So why is the European Parliament becoming so critical of her candidacy? There are two reasons: the parliament was not consulted, and her hearings last week were not very well received. She did not appear to know much and she did not promise much — a bad combination.” – bto: genau das Profil der inkompetenten Marionette, die Frankreich und andere sich wünschen.
  • “(…) von der Leyen is an upper-class Hanoverian, internationally educated, with no obvious accent. From an SPD perspective, she might as well live on a different planet. The group circulated a two-page pamphlet among MEPs last week with the headline: ‘Why Ursula von der Leyen is an inadequate and unsuitable candidate’. It was a classic hatchet job.” – bto: Selten bin ich mit der SPD einer Meinung …
  • Her previous political record is mixed. (…) Under her leadership, the Bundeswehr has turned into one of Europe’s most underfunded armed forces.” – bto: “armed”? Ich denke, das kann man nicht mehr behaupten.
  • “She lacks a stable support base in the European Parliament for the next five years.(…) If Ms von der Leyen makes it over the line, then it will only be because someone from outside this group supports her.That number could include nationalists from the governing parties in Hungary, Poland and Italy. (…) A weak commission president might suit them — how could Ms von der Leyen push an excessive deficit procedure against Italy if she owes her nomination to the Northern League? Would she be bold enough to pursue legal cases against Poland and Hungary over their failure to uphold democracy and defend EU values?” – bto: oder ein Defizitverfahren gegen Frankreich? Widerstand gegen eine Transferunion. Die Liste lässt sich verlängern und immer wieder zieht Deutschland bei diesen Entscheidungen den Kürzeren!
  • “We may end up in a situation where Ms von der Leyen has a majority tomorrow, but no subsequent one to help enact her policies. (…) MEPs from the centre should not fall into this trap. If they rejected Ms von der Leyen, they would certainly trigger howls of protest, but we should remember that this would be the kind of crisis the EU is used to. After some huffing and puffing in the European Council, a new candidate would emerge before long.” – bto: Margrethe – und dann kann man im Élysée-Palast eine Woche nicht mehr klar denken wegen des vielen Champagners, der fließt.
  • “If they accept Ms von der Leyen, they could end up with five years of political gridlock Margrethe and cause damage to both the European Commission and the European Parliament in the process. I am not sure that this is a political price worth paying for this candidate.” – bto: natürlich nicht. Es war eine Riesenfalle, in die unsere Verhandlungsführerin getappt ist. Eine Kandidatin, die niemand mit klarem Verstand hierzulande nominiert hätte, vom Franzosen vorgeschlagen und diese Woche erneut – erinnern wir uns an die Bundespräsidenten-Show vor einigen Jahren? – in der Öffentlichkeit als Looserin vorgeführt wird. So viel zum Thema der “weiblichen Solidarität”…
